It is a very rare thing to see a male K-Pop artist covering a female artist’s song, much more a girl group as famous and as powerful as BlackPink. Yet, this is something that Gaho constantly slays. Since his debut, he has made four highly lauded and amazing covers of BlackPink that would make the girls run for their money! 😂
For a fan like me, seeing one of your favorite K-Pop soloists render a different flavor and twist to a famous K-Pop song gives a certain kind of excitement, awe, and pride.
What K-Pop group is Gaho in?
Gaho is a musician, songwriter, and producer from South Korea who is currently signed to Planetarium Records. He is also a part of PLT, a boy group project. On May 3, 2018, Gaho launched his solo career with his debut digital single “Stay Here.”
Is Gaho an Idol?
He was an idol trainee in the past and went on to become a singer, songwriter, and producer. Before gaining fame with his hit single “Start Over” on the ‘Itaewon Class’ OST, he was also a vocalist in PLT, a well-known hip-hop/R&B project group under Planetarium Records.
Here’s how Gaho slayed 4 times covering BlackPink songs
1. How You Like That
Energy. Fire. Vocal Power. In this cover, Gaho truly exemplifies those three.
The song is already catchy but his adding a different flavor to it made it even more interesting. It possessed a certain kind of darkness that allowed the song to stand out more. The rap that he added is simply a chef’s kiss.
He was also able to exploit his vocal range here. Those few falsettos are bombs. The rearrangement just matches his vocal power. His was surely a solid cover.
2. Lovesick Girls
Here, he brought Lovesick Girls to new heights. His vocal power brings an intensity that the original lacks. The way he belted on those high notes would bring you to the sky and back.
Lovesick Girls is a BlackPink signature, but Gaho turned it into his own. He ate the song up and left no crumbs.
3. On the Ground
I have not really vibed with Rose’s On the Ground but Gaho’s take on the song made me appreciate it.
His consistency in his covers is just amazing. His chemistry with the band is perfect; the arrangement is perfect; his voice is just perfect.
The way the song intensifies and then tones down and intensifies again is a musical experience.
4. Shut Down
My jaw dropped listening to this cover.
Gaho and Kave is a match made in heaven when it comes to a BP song cover. The arrangement, venue, and aesthetics of the whole video added to the song’s power. I just can’t help it but stay in awe of his vocal calisthenics.
Once again, he made the song his. Apart from the lyrics, the song is Gaho’s in every angle. It is definitely a Shut Down Performance.
If you’re not a fan yet, these covers will absolutely make you one!
