MEET MARA

Welcome to our blog!

Hello everyone! I am Von’s younger cousin – a multi-passionate girl who loves everything that look, sound and feel artistic – and for the purpose of this blog, please call me Mara.

Being caught up in this Korean-craze was never a part of my plan at all. A few years ago, I was that serious office girl who used to raise her eyebrows and cringe on teenagers who go crazy over K-Pop and some certain Oppas. Expectedly, that same old years, I used to shake my head on K-dramas for the honest reason that I find it hard to distinguish the actors/actresses faces from one another (I can’t tell the characters apart 😅). Until one day, a friend on Facebook shared Krystel Fulgar’s English cover of the song “Words of my Heart” (I am Not a Robot OST) and I thought, “what a very beautiful heartbreaking song. I have to check this drama out and find out why it deserves this song.” I didn’t know that that drama was a fad that time but I finished it in 3 days and boy, it was such a breath of fresh air – I needed to watch more! That is how, my friends, my serious relationship with K-drama has began.

Though I enjoy cute RomComs, innocent High School romance and career-focused stories like Medical or Justice dramas, my most favorite and most re-watched are those that portray real life situations and relationships that offer life values and lessons. I am more into feel-good family and friendship stories with a good amount of laugh and “cry”. To name a few, Reply 1988, My Father is Strange, My Mister, Sassy Go Go, Flower Boys Next Door and Because This is the First Time are on the top of my list so far.

Because a beautiful OST brought me to K-drama, you bet I will surely enjoy every single OST of all my K-dramas. In fact, they pretty much consist my Spotify playlist! For me, an OST is an extension of the K-drama itself. They level up the experience of the drowning emotions of a certain story. I guess every K-drama fan would agree that there’s no better way of surviving separation anxiety from your recently finished K-drama than binge-listening to its OSTs – until you get sick of them! 🤣

Falling in love with OSTs open the doors for K-Pop for me. The first K-Pop group I come to enjoy was BTOB. I watched the We Got Married series of Yook Sung Jae of BTOB and Park So Young of Red Velvet. There was an episode where BTOB’s Im Hyung Sik made a song for the Bbyu couple and it came out so beautiful! It turns out their group has many great ballad songs with great meaningful lyrics – like It’s Okay, Missing You, Beautiful Pain, Friend and Father. K-Pop indeed is not all about those danceable songs. Over time, I come to discover and fell in love with the music of IU, AKMU and BTS as well.

And lastly, Korean Skincare. While Von never had a bad relationship with K-skin because his is a flawless journey from the very beginning – mine is a completely different story. I think we started together at the same time and invested almost the same amount of $ in Korean Skin care. However, because skincare is very personal and we have different skin types, and most of all, because I am way too stubborn to be religious at it 😅, I obtained different results. So, while he writes about how Korean Skincare changed his skin, I think I will be sharing my present battle acne with the help of K-Skin with the high hopes of sharing my skin’s positive transformation in the future.

That’s it! As our main personal outlet with our love for all beautiful things Korean – Skincare, Music and Drama, I hope you will enjoy our tiny little blog!
