MEET VON
Annyeong!
Saying that feels weird and giddy at the same time. Yet, I have been wanting to have a platform where I can express my thoughts and feelings on all things Korean and this blog has been a miracle in many ways especially because this was born in a time where everyone struggles be mentally stable because of the pandemic.
I am Von, a 30-year-old fanatic of anything Korean from skincare, K-Pop, to the Hallyu wave of Kdramas. My love for Korean pop culture started with my viewing experience of the tragic love story “Memories of Bali”. I was so young then but that series deeply affected me. The plot narrative was really good and how the characters develop as the story progresses was very moving to me at that time. It was also my first taste of Korean culture. Since then, Korean stories have been part of my love for literature, not to mention I teach Afro-Asian literature for a living, so, Korean narratives reflected in these dramas have truly helped me teach the Korean psyche to my students better.
My K-Pop journey on the other hand began when I saw for the first time the MV of BTS’s Mic Drop in MYX some three years ago. It was the #1 on the daily top ten as well as the M.I.T. 20. I was shocked that a Korean song rule our local streaming platform. Like any BTS or K-Pop virgin 😂 at that time I was like, ‘Who are these boys?’, ‘Why are they #1?’. So, what I did to answer those questions is research. I watched all their Music videos, interviews, and their stage performances. To cut it short, I became a BTS stan. That video opened the gates of K-Pop to me. BTS became the medium that allowed me to discover other artists in this music genre. You might laugh that some 30-year-old teacher is into K-Pop 😂 but yes! I am. I mean who wouldn’t right? K-Pop is a genre that truly knows how to play with colors, concept, visuals, and choreography in an intense and unifying aesthetics.
My skincare story is the youngest, so to speak. I only discovered it the summer of last year through my cousin. She recommended me the first Korean skincare products I used. She also recommended me the skincare vloggers that she follows which I have come to love too. You will read about these youtubers here that’s for sure. Over the course of one year, Korean skincare has truly changed my skin for the better. I have now understood the hype behind it because it is truly efficacious in delivering the best skin benefits.
So, if you are like us who enjoy Korean contents and influences or if you are simply on the stage of exploring Korean pop culture, have a look at our blog, read, explore, and let’s all STAN K-skin, K-Pop, and K-drama!
Fighting!
